An epilogue to The Wishsong of Shannara
The time of the Shannara follows in the wake of an apocalypse that has destroyed the old world and very nearly annihilated its people as well. A thousand years of savagery and barbarism have concluded at the start the series with the emergence of a new civilization in which magic has replaced science as the dominant source of power. A Druid Council comprised of the most talented of the new races–Men, Dwarves, Trolls, Gnomes, and Elves, names taken from the old legends–has begun the arduous task of rebuilding the world and putting an end to the racial warfare that has consumed the survivors of the so-called Great Wars since their conclusion.
But the wars continue, albeit in a different form. Magic, like science, is often mercurial, can be used for good or evil, and can have a positive or negative effect on those who come in contact with it. In The Sword of Shannara, a Druid subverted by his craving for magic’ s power manipulated Trolls and Gnomes in his effort to gain mastery over the other races. He failed because of Shea Ohmsford, the last of an Elven family with the Shannara surname. Shea, with the help of his brother and a small band of companions, was able to wield the fabled Sword of Shannara to destroy the Dark Lord.
Subsequently, in The Elfstones of the Shannara, his grandson Wil was faced with another sort of challenge, one that required the use of a magic contained in a set of Elfstones. But use of the Stones altered Wil’s genetic makeup, so that his own children were born with magic in their blood. As a result, in the third book of the series, the Wishsong of Shannara, Brin and her brother Jair were recruited by the Druid Allanon to seek out and destroy the Ildatch, the book of dark magic that had subverted the Warlock Lord, and was now doing the same with the Mord wraiths.
The story that follows takes place several years after the conclusion of The Wishsong and again features Jair Ohmsford, who must come to terms with his obsession with the past and his use of his magic that his sister has warned him not to trust

I've been a fan of Terry Brooks for many years, and I've read all of his previous works. It's been several years since I've read "The Wishsong of Shannara", but this fine short novel does a good job of bringing the early Shannara stories to a conclusion. It was fun to read about Jair Ohmsford again and see how he deals with the realization that his magic power is much different than he thought. This story is a quick read and it is packed with action. Brooks fans won't want to miss "Indomitable".

Indomitable A Short Novel from the Legends II Collection The Sword of Shannara edition by Terry Brooks Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A wonderful gasp-filling short story tying the great novel's of the Shannara sagas together. I wouldn't be surprised to more short stories occurring between novels.
The content and writing style was interesting and true to form of the prior shannara books, but the story is short and rushed and not quite worth the money. I enjoyed revising old characters but it was not long enough to be worth it. If you want to read the novella just pay $5 more to get the full legends 2 anthology.
In Indomitable Terry Brooks does an excellent job of evoking the emotions of his characters in a short story that provides some nice added background to a later series, the Scions of Shannara. Brooks also uses the story as an opportunity to return to his long-running theme as to the evolution and danger associated with magic. Well written and fast-paced, Indomitable is a worthwhile quick read for fans of the Shannara universe.
*Note I recommend reading The Sword of Shannara, Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara before reading this book.
Premise

Review
The old school Shannara books are arguably the best I've read by Terry Brooks, the new ones after like 2005, aren't really that good. When I bought this short novel on , I was hoping the magic from the old series would come back.
And come back it did.
The novel takes place two years after the events that unfolded in The Wishsong of Shannara. Brin Ohmsford has grown up, and is now out of Shady Vale, is now married to Rone Leah and is pregnant. Jair on the otherhand is still in Shady Vale, working in the family Inn. His life is vey peaceful, and all of it is shattered when Kimber Boh, grandaughter of the Druid Cogline, comes and tells Jair to come with her to destroy the last page of the Ildatch, that is locked up in the Fortress Dun Fee Aran.
The plot really isn't surprising at first. Just classic Terry Brooks. I was reminded why I like him. I love quest stories. So if you hate it, stay away. Brooks is back!
The characters are realistic , and are exactly how I remembered them, except for Jair. Jair is no longer a whiner, he is tough and has grown up. He is far more fun to read about now.
Writing quality is wordy at times. Thank for putting a dictionary easy to get into on the . His writing is reminiscent of Tolkien and if you hate Tolkien, again stay away. I also like the fact it's a short novel, or novella. No eat, fight, sleep pattern that plague many an epic fantasy.
Verdict
5 out of 5 stars! Grab it, it's worth the whole $2.99!
Also available in print in the Legends II Anthology and Nook!
The characters were well rounded and given new qualities to make this short story a good addition to the Wishsong.
...it’s a short story, yes, but it deals with finally reaching maturity and dealing with all that maturity requires. It’s also about learning to look at ideas and events thru adult eyes, and recognizing how much you have learned and how much you still have to learn. An excellent story! <><
Some stories cannot be told quickly- they are epic and complicated, and the hero(s) face great peril many times before the end. Sometimes they even die, having run into more danger than they can overcome. But if that is true, then then the reverse must be true as well- that sometimes the journey is LESS complicated than we would expect. This is one of those journeys. It starts out the way all of the Shannara books do- a druid's call to peril. but it is over fairly quickly, and only once is Jair in real, serious danger. This might seem like a criticism, but in fact, I found it very refeshing. Once in a great while, things should actually go according to plan!! Life is not one great string of inevitable disasters, and the good guy doesn't always pay a heavy cost. If all of Brook's stories went this easily, he would never get published, but since the opposite is true of the Shannara series, the lightness makes a good counterpoint. SPOILER- Jair gets in, gets it done, and gets on with life. I enjoyed that immensely.
