The Trees Have Hearts Mrs D Books Reviews
The Trees have Hearts
What an Incredible book for all children that are learning a new language! It is the amazing story of a little girl and her tree friends and the wind. Again, Mrs D. takes us on another adventure that provides the readers on a great trip. The book is filled with peaceful illustrations, intense feelings, with the wisdom of nature and teaches us life lessons.
I was struck by the beauty of the illustrations and the story itself. Being an English Language Learner teacher, I can say that I have seen this story in person. The children have had a very hard time to talk with others. I now have the book in our classroom library so that all of the students can reread it often. The students come from Vietnam, Japan, Ukraine, Saudi and India. They love it and their reading of it always brings a smile to my face.
I love the lesson that it is shared in this book. The thought of the little girl befriending the trees really spoke to me. I love that she spoke to the trees and they spoke to her. I can see that Mrs. D has had a similar experience of being new in a country that she can’t communicate in because she has managed to explain it so that everyone wants to keep it in their hearts.

The wind blows through the trees and the sound is music to a young girl who had moved into a new home with her mother. She has a language bearer with the community, but not with nature.
Her imagination brings her close to nature – the three trees in the garden yard of the house she lives in. An endearing relationship amongst them is enjoyed and the little girl is helped through her daily troubles by the comfort of the trees. She over comes her fears with their help.
Mrs. D. has produced a fine children’s book to be read to your young ones. She, as I do, recommends that you read to your children on a daily basis. I believe readers are leader, because they know different ways to complete an endeavor.
This is not a complicated read, but should be read to a child up to the age of seven or let them read it at that age. It is quit mystical in nature and has some life lessons in it that we all could learn.

“The Trees Have Hearts” by Mrs. D. is another wonderful tale by this talented author. Written in her typically unique style, this tale will capture your imagination as you enter the world of a lonely young girl who has been uprooted from her native country, and relocated to a new land, a new town, a new school, and no new friends… yet. While she waits for time to teach her a new language, she befriends a trio of trees growing in her backyard. Her vivid imagination is so typical of the very young, and it is such a shame that we generally lose that as we age.
In “The Trees Have Hearts”, our heroine eventually begins to make new human friends, both at school and at summer camp. Will her tree friends be upset with her? Will they be jealous of her newest friends? Or will they reach out to her, happy that she is beginning to feel at home at last?
This story is one that “feels good” as you read it. But all good things must end, so they say. Will our little friend face yet another challenge in her young life? Get a copy of “The Trees Have Hearts” and enjoy getting to know just a bit about what it must be like for a child to leave all that is familiar, and settle in a new place. You will enjoy the story, and so will your children. And by all means, do not neglect to read the Preface.
It is a true testament to an author when I read one of their books and it leaves me wanting more. It is what caused me to go in search of yet another book by Mrs. D. There are several factors of why I would recommend this book, but I shall leave you with two and my summary.
First of all, Mrs. D has an eloquent way with words. She has the power to conjure beautiful images within your mind. This eloquence in no way deters from the story’s readability, in fact, it enhances it by pulling you into the tale. You are the small child lost in loneliness one moment, and laughing and playing amongst the trees, the next.
The second factor in recommending this book, or her others for that matter, is that teaches lessons within her stories without being heavy-handed. She crafts the moral of her books so well, that they are always lovingly presented and thus easily absorbed by a child. Young readers will not feel like they are being lectured in any form, but subconsciously they are grasping the message behind the words.
It is my humble opinion, Mrs. D has a true gift of storytelling. She can evoke emotion. While reading, The Trees Have Hearts, a secondary emotion kept popping into my mind separate from the scene that was being laid out before me on the pages. I was transported back into an earlier point in time to when I was a young child. I easily imagined myself curled up in my grandmother’s lap reading this story together. This image continued to pop into my mind several times while reading. What a precious gift!
Once again, I can only say that this is definitely a treasure to add to your child’s collection of literary works. I will definitely continue to support Mrs. D by purchasing her books to add to my own personal collection.
